What is the purpose of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Youth Advocate Coalition of Polk County?

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Youth Advocate Coalition of Polk County (DHHYAC) was established in 2019 as an organization to provide services and resources for parents and children in the deaf and hard of hearing community in Polk County.

DHHYAC’s purpose as an organization is to ensure that parents are able to learn sign language to communicate with their deaf/hard of hearing child and that deaf/hard of hearing children are able to get a head start in language acquisition before they reach kindergarten and to ensure that they are provided the access they need to prepare for independence.

This organization also provides opportunities for the hearing community to learn sign language to communicate with deaf/hard of hearing individuals in the workplace or socially.
